The department hosts several events for the community throughout the year. Listed are the decriptions of the events.
July 4th Bar-b-que
Every year on July 4th during the town of Sheridan's festival, we host a bar-b-que dinner at the fire station. We serve bar-b-que porkchops or bar-b-que chicken along with the trimmings and a drink. Serving starts at 11am and lasts until all the food is gone. All proceeds are used to purchase equipment for the department.
This year 333 dinners were sold which gave the department $862.00 profit which will help us buy new equipment. We wish to thank all who supported our BBQ dinner!
July 4th Silent Auction
During the July 4th festival, the department hosts a silent auction with items donated to the department by various retailers and private parties. The auction is held at the fire station and bidding starts at 11am until 5pm. No presence is required at the end of the auction. Winners will be notified by phone. All proceeds are used to purchase equipment for the department.
This year the silent auction proceeds were $3315.00 which was the most ever! Thank you to all who supported our silent auction!
July 4th Fun Fest
The Fun Fest is held the weekend prior to July 4th and held at the American Legion in Sheridan. It is jointly hosted by the department along with the American Legion. The event is held outside with a band. Drinks are served to people of legal age who purchase a wristband to enter the event. All proceeds the department receives go towards our education fund which helps fund our smoke trailer and other programs.
Monthly Car Washes
Between the months of April until September, department volunteers gather at the station to host a car wash between 8am and noon. All vechicles are vacuumed, windows washed inside and out, and the body washed. All proceeds are used for the education fund which helps fund our smoke trailer and other programs.
Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy
In August, department volunteers gather at two corners in town to collect for Muscular Dystrophy. The fill the boot program is hosted by many fire departments in the nation of which we are proud to be involved. All the money collected is given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
This year out department collected $875.00 for MDA on August 25th. We wish to thank everyone who donated!
Red Cross Blood Drives
Several times a year, the department hosts blood drives for the American Red Cross. The blood collected is used to help save the lives of people in our area. The types of people who benefit from the blood are accident victims, people who need surgery, and others with various illnesses. Snacks are served.
We will be hosting a blood drive on May 6th from 4-7pm at the fire station. Please stop by and donate blood and see the new station. Refreshments will be served.
The department has a smoke trailer which is used to help children know how to react during a fire and they are taught how to find an exit when the smoke is too thick to see. The trailer is taken to several events during the year and admission is free.
